Silk is the Queen of Fabrics. Because of its natural protein structure, silk is the most hypoallergenic of all fabrics. Is is also an all-climate fabric, warm and cozy in winter and comfortably cool when temperatures rise. Its natural temperature-regulating properties give silk this paradoxical ability to cool and warm simultaneously. Silk garments thus outperform other fabrics in both summer and winter. Silk worn as a second layer warms without being bulky. Silk is highly absorbent and dries quickly. It can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp. Silk will absorb perspiration while letting your skin breathe. In spite of its delicate appearance, silk is relatively robust and its smooth surface resists soil and odors well. And while silk abrasion resistance is moderate, it is the strongest natural fiber and, surprisingly, it easily competes with steel yarn in tensile strength.
All of my scarves and bow ties are unique and hand painted on 100% silk materials, using colorfast paint. All of them are painted with love and handcrafted with great care and attention to detail by me in my workshop to slow fashion standards. The hems of scarves and pocket squares have been delicately hand rolled. For more information please check out the FAQs.
Each one is a unique piece of myself! Silk painting is a wonderful way of expressing myself and both the silk and the paint come alive in a very special way. I hope you enjoy my scarves and bow ties as much as I enjoy making them!
After you have folded, tied and worn it for a while, your silk scarf will naturally get wrinkles, and you may find that your scarf or pocket square requires ironing. Although fragile, silk is also a very strong material and it is fine to use an iron to remove any creases. Hanging your scarf overnight will help remove most of the wrinkles, but to remove stubborn ones, set the iron on the lowest position. To be safe always use a cloth protector while ironing, and try not to press the hand rolled edges. You can also steam the scarves. If you are unsure about doing this yourself, please take your product to an experienced professional.
You can delicately hand wash your scarf or shawl using a mild soap and cold water. Bow ties can be spot cleaned. If you are not sure how to do this yourself, please take your product to an experienced professional. Do not dry-clean.
You can style the scarves differently and use them not only around the neck but also as headbands, bandanas, wristlets, or tied to your handbag. Also offered for colder climates and seasons are the pieces that are paired with different material shawls and fabrics to create more comfortable and warmer pieces. You can check out my blog for styling tips and video tutorials with easy and stylish ways to wear your scarf or shawl. The sky is the limit!
